For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, 70 communities from Focal Regions Cahul and Ungheni joined efforts to cooperate in local economic development by signing a Memorandum of inter-municipal cooperation.

All 33 communities from Ungheni rayon have signed two memoranda. The communities will establish a common economic agenda based on regional competitive advantages and strengthening value chains. Also, the signatory localities will lay the grounds for the process of initiating inter-municipal cooperation in the joint organis ation and management of the public water supply and sewerage service in the focal region Ungheni.

In parallel, 37 communities in Cahul rayon signed memorandum for inter-community cooperation. Moreover, 21 communities from Cahul teamed up to initiate inter-communal cooperation for the organisation and operation of the public domain asset management service (street lighting and maintenance of green spaces) in the focal region Cahul.

The initiative is carried out within the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions Programme, funded and strategically guided by the European Union, implemented by UNDP and UNICEF Moldova.
