With the support of the European Union, a video spot was produces about the modernis ation project of the street lighting in Ocniţa and Cantemir “Green Light Moldova!”. The project was implemented under the EU-funded programme “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects” (CoM-DeP) and received the EU Sustainable Energy Award in the Eastern Partnership. The project was managed by the Public Association “Alliance for Energy Efficiency and Renewables” (AEER), in partnership with the towns of Cantemir and Ocniţa, co-financed by local sources.

The video spot presents the works made in Cantemir and Ocniţa, as well as the results obtained. For this purpose, the mayors of the two localities were interviewed, including the residents of those two towns. It is a success story about how small towns become efficient and sustainable (while ensuring a reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions), ultimately benefiting the local population.

Cantemir and Ocniţa are signatories to the European initiative “Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy”, have developed and implemented the Sustainable Energy Action Plan, committing to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020.
