Is the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) procedure in Moldova efficient? The current state and opportunities in the domain were presented at the second Awareness raising workshop on Strategic Environmental Assessment application in the Republic of Moldova, organised within EU4Environment. The event was organised on 23 April 2021.
The main objectives of the workshop were to promote the application of SEA in Moldova in line with the requirements of the UNECE Protocol on SEA, EU SEA Directive and the national legislation on SEA; support relevant national authorities by raising awareness about the benefits of SEA, including as a tool for making p o s t – C O V I D – 1 9 economic recovery initiatives green and sustainable; facilitate the engagement of key stakeholders in the process of refining Moldova’s national SEA system; and take stock of the already existing experience and capacity for SEA application in Moldova as well as of the needs in this area.
This workshop was the second event organized by UN ECE in Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment under the SEA and transboundary EIA component of EU4Environment to promote the application of SEA in accordance with the national legislation and support relevant national authorities by raising awareness about benefits of SEA, relevant procedures and roles and responsibilities in the implementation of SEA procedures.
The event was attended by Mr Gintautas Baranauskas, First Secretary, Deputy Head of Operations Section, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Leonid Kalashnyk, Environmental Affairs Officer, EU4Environment Project Manager in UN ECE, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), Environmental Agency, Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, other ministries and governmental agencies, academic sector and civil society environmental organisations (PA EcoContact).
