On 19 May 2021, a monitoring visit of the construction works under the European Union (EU) funded projects for improvement of energy efficiency (EE) of the Theoretical Lyceum‚ Dimitrie Cantemir’ from Balti municipality took place. The goal of the project is to ensure a comfortable learning environment and better working conditions for around 1 000 pupils and teachers of the Lyceum.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Peter Michalko, and other representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, specialists of North Regional Development Agency (North RDA), representatives of GIZ Moldova, local public authorities, Balti residents, the media and civil society.
The construction works under the project include the repair of the roof, with an area of 2 105 m2; thermal insulation works of walls on a total area of 5 316 m2; replacement of windows and exterior doors with an area of 695 m2; installation of a thermal station; providing hot and cold water at Lyceum’s taps; and renovation of internal toilets of the institution. As a result of project implementation, the annual standardised energy consumption in the educational institution will be reduced, according to estimations, by 547 MWh, and the annual standardised CO2 emissions by 125 tons.
The total value of the project ‚Increasing Energy Efficiency of Theoretical Lyceum‚ Dimitrie Cantemir’ in Balti’ is over 1 million EUR, of which 994 000 EUR – granted by the EU and 7 000 EUR – local contribution.
The investment measure Increasing Energy Efficiency of Theoretical Lyceum ‘Dimitrie Cantemir’, Balti Municipality is financed by the European Union and implemented by North RDA and the ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project. The MLPS project is financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.
